INspiration #9

Ballet requires a very demanding medium. I danced when I was a little girl and suffered what this woman was rejected for through. I was too big and bulky. I did not have the right figure. This amazing woman went against those things and became the first African American Female soloist for the American Ballet Theater.

Misty Copeland was 13 when she found her love for ballet. This commercial is a direct read from her rejection letter (although it is not her reading it). They say she is too old for her application (13 is really old for ballet dancers who have been dancing since they were able to crawl). They stated her body was not right for a classic ballerina. As you can see in the end she was eventually accepted. Against this odd though, this woman fought for her right to be as known.

Her biggest triumph in my opinion is she was just a girl who loved to dance who endured the pressure and the negative opinions of the world and proved them wrong. Now you will see this woman in commercials, Princes Crimson Clover music video, and a soloist in ballet.
