Enviornment Wellness

As I covered in the Wellness Wheel, environment is just a section.

What a perfect time to get that going because it is time for some
Not only can you do spring cleaning, you can also get going on your gardening. I am doing a complete 'up-do' of my yard so I am digging a lot, moving a lot of plants around, and getting a really nice workout out of it. Plus I am getting at least a little sun vitamins. Go outside and enjoy the sun! It is beautiful out there!
Also you can clean out your internal environment. My body is almost back after baby 2 and a lot of cloths have suffered the wrath of my dramatic physical change. I am clearing out my old cloths, old pots and pans, returning stuff I borrowed from my family (thanks for the pans Mommy!) and getting rid of stuff that I have not touched in the last year. Feels so good. Plus I am finding a lot of things that I needed at one time but couldn't find! HURRAY!

Never Stop Believing in Yourself

Dear friends,

On a very personal note, I have the utmost respect for our veterans. My family has served in every war (save the Vietnam War). My father volunteered to be shipped off to the "worst possible place" in the Iraqi war in 2006. He says it was the most humbling experience of his life. These men and women suffered in more ways than we could imagine. They keep us safe. They sacrifice their bodies for us.

This veteran was told he could never walk again, but one person did not give up on him and returned his lost confidence. I hope I can do that for you. If you give your heart like this man did for his yoga instructor, I will give you my everything as well.

Don't let people tell you "you will never walk again". If you stick with it, you will one day run again.

Sincerely,
Bri

Our World and Body

I found this on Facebook and loved it. I am not a full blown environmentalist but I am a firm believer that being good to our environment is also very good for our bodies. Read on and I will explain why at the end.

Grandma Raised In The South
Being Green...

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days."

The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."

She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were truly recycled.

But we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our schoolbooks. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags.

But too bad we didn't do the green thing back then.

We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.

But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throwaway kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.

But that young lady is right; we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But we didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?
It is true that there were some overweight people back in the days but it was a sign of wealth and having servants. Now our servants are electrical blenders and cars. Maybe we should give them a day off, actually use our bodies for some work and maybe help the environment more.

By decreasing the amount of pollution we give our bodies more healthy air to breathe. So make sure your recycle not just in the recycling can but utilize those things at home too! Go paper bags instead of plastic. The uses of paper bags outweigh plastic bags and they recycle cleaner as well.
Hanging your cloths out to dry saves you money and it is a good workout! My arms get tired after hanging my cloths.
Getting kids cloths used is a saver on your wallet and on your nerves of them destroying a new outfit. Check out local thrift stores or ask around for old baby cloths. Most people are happy to get rid of them.

I need to work on this one. I have stores within walking distance of my home and I could sacrifice the extra half hour to walk there. Let's all try and walk to the stores if they are closer to you and also make fewer trips by planning ahead.
Our governments work to keep our water clean (at least in the United States). Spending Billions of dollars to make it so, yet we spend at least twice that much on bottled water that is no better or worse for you. Buy a home filter if you are paranoid about your tap water but stop polluting our world with the waste of plastic bottles.
Let your kids walk to school!!!!! It was my biggest pet peive when someone dove me to my school that was a 15 minute walk downhill. It was not as fun in the snow or rain but our parents survived and so did I. For safety, have your kids walk with friends or walk with them (you might actually burn some calories too). Have them car poll if the distance is too far and the buses don't reach you (that was my issue in high school, no buses in my area). The walk won't kill them, if anything it will get us one step closer to lowering childhood obesity!
Hope you find this informative and enlightening, I sure did!

Quote- Inspiration

Now I know he gets a lot of flack, but Schwarznegger is one of my heroes. He always achieved what he wanted to achieve. He came to America, he became Mr. Universe an Mr. Olympia contest 7 times, he became a well known action hero and actor, and he became the Gov. of California. Anything he has wanted to do, he has done and that is why he is my hero.

Final Countdown

Everyone struggles with motivation. I am also one who struggles with it. There is one song that gets me pumped and ready to do whatever it takes. Find that one song and let it inspire you and let it envelope you as you work out.
Enjoy my motivation song while you think of your song.

(What can I say, I am a 80's/90's girl. Heck I would even go back to the insane fashion if we could have music like this again!)

Dark Side

Imagine a sweet girl with cute little braids, a smile on her face, and let's put some flowers in her hand. A mean little boy come over and snips off one of her braids. She cries and then seeks out her revenge by putting fire ants in his bed. Let's face it, even the most innocent have a dark side. It is in us all. The trick is controlling it.

In our modern world there is so much noise, so much anger, so much hate and we are bombarded by it in every direction. It can bring out that dark side of you. You don't want to bring it out, especially on those you love. Here is some advice on avoiding lashing that side of you at another person.

  1. Avoid rough music. Listen to the words of a song. Even if the tune is catchy and  sounds uplifting it can be secretly sending dark thoughts into your heart. A song can have an intense guitar part and still not cater to your dark side.
  2. Sit in your bed each morning and just breathe for 5 minutes. Let no sound bother you, let no thought cross your mind, let nothing touch you that is of this world. Do this every time you feel angry and want to lash out.
  3. Let your dark side out once in a while. Once repressed it will come back, stronger and more dangerous than before. In a contained area (your house for example) where few people are, watch a film that brings out your dark side, listen to the music that makes you feel bleek. Don't be ashamed, it is human.
  4. Do something physical where you hit something. Just running is not as effective as actually smacking something.

Ideal Image

Women have the hardest time realizing you don't have to be a size 6 to be beautiful. Well, what do you think of this picture? I think all three are beautiful. Have you seen the pictures of the ladies at the plus size stores? AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
Moral of this story, you don't have to be a tiny girl/man to be beautiful. There is nothing wrong with just right.

Inspiration: Death Crawl

If it hurts, you keep going. If you have given up, you can go just a little further. If you think you finished carrying a 140 pound man on your back you are carrying a 160 pound man on you back. When you have given your best give more.
The mind is greater then the body. When you pass the point you tell yourself you can give more, you have reached a mile stone and have conquered your own body.
You are stronger then you think. Never forget it.

Inspiration: Rudy

The movie Rudy has truly been an inspirational show. The real story has also been most inspiring. I have always look up to men like this, who overcame all diversity, all odds to achieve their dreams. Rudy has inspired me to not let anything get in my way when it comes to my dreams. I have achieved all of my hopes, all of my thoughts, and all of my dreams. I hope his story can inspire you too.

Expect to fall on your face

To those people who think that those perfect figured people don't have a moment of weakness where they want that cake, or want that hot fudge sunday. Well, they are very wrong.
I admit this week I was not feeling all that great. I did not want to go to the gym and I only went twice as compared to my usual 4 times. I also had the biggest craving for Dove Chocolate. So, I got a bag of dove chocolate and sadly I downed it in two days time.
Even Chris Powell (who, if you have not noticed is one of my role models in this business) admitted his weakness was tortilla chips. He would sit down and watch Simpsons with tortilla chips. (Go figure a man like that can down an entire back of tortilla chips without realizing it)
So the moral of this story is, you will fall on your face. Expect it. When it does happen I dare you to get  back up.

If you need help, I am there for you. You can e-mail me or post your own down falls and how you triumphed over it. Show the others they are not alone!
